Makarabharani ponkala

Ponkala festival is one of the most significant offers to Puthenkavil Bhagavathi. This is celebrated on Bharani day every year on Makaram month, as per malayalam calender. Ponkala is a sweet offering of rice cooked with jaggery, ghee, coconut as well as other ingredients made in earthen pot.

Ponkala Mahotsavam is an exclusive festival for women devotees. By offering Ponkala women devotees are blessed for the well being of their husband and children and entire family. It is believed that Ponkala offering brings good life partner for unmarried girls. All devotees irrespective nationality, caste, creed, religion and social status participate in this auspicious occasion.

Sreemath Bhagavatha Sapthaha Yanjam

The auspicious Srimadh Bhagavatha Sapthaha Ygnam,Which is known as emperor among Yagnas is held in the temple continuously for the past years. Devotees turn up large number to attend this yagnam, and with their help free feeding is also on all days. Every year this starts on the Malayalam month of "Makaram" and last for 7 days.

Meenabharani (Annual Festival-10days)

Meenabharani is celebrated for nine days. Devi’s birthday falls on Bharani in the month of Meenam. The procession starts with Trikodiyattu and end with Thiru arattu. This is one of the festival with huge gathering of people and elephants. There is the offering of Parra(literally, a measure of paddy) to amma. Devi visits every house in the village and people make decorations with flowers to invite amma on this auspicious day.

The fireworks in the evening hours after “deeparadhana” adds more beauty by filling bright colors on the dark sky and special fireworks called Karimarrunnu prayogam during 2.00 am on Bharani day.During this period various art forms will be staged. It includes major Padayani, Ottamthullal, Goshayathra, Drama, Dance Drama, music performances etc.
